“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Most people spend more time planning a vacation than planning their lives, and then wonder why the life doesn't feel intentional. We gather information, make lists, trust our research. But purpose isn't built the same way a route is mapped. The verse doesn't say trust in your preparation or your analysis. It says trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. There's a difference between thinking you know the way forward and actually walking it.
The human mind is built to solve puzzles with the information available. It fills gaps. It projects forward based on what it has seen before. But purpose often requires stepping into a gap you can't see across. This is where most people jam on the brakes. They want the full picture before they move. They want to understand the path before they commit to it. The invitation here is stranger: submit to God in all your ways, and he will make the paths straight. Not show you the paths first. Make them straight as you walk.
This doesn't mean wandering without direction or ignoring the counsel of wise people. It means releasing the grip on needing to see the whole route mapped before you trust it. It means listening for the voice that says 'this is the way.' It means moving forward even when your own understanding would keep you still. The light you carry isn't meant to illuminate everything at once; it's meant to show the next step clearly enough to take it. Purpose unfolds in motion, not in endless preparation.
Heart Takeaway
Name one area where you've been waiting to understand everything before you move. Ask God to show you the next single step, and take it today without needing to see the rest.
