Called Into the Light

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9

You were chosen for something. Not because you earned it or because you have it all figured out. The text says you were called out of darkness into wonderful light, which means the calling came first. The light came first. Everything else follows from that.

Most people spend their energy trying to discover their purpose, as if it's a puzzle hidden somewhere they haven't looked yet. They pray for clarity about what they should do, where they should go, what their life means. But the verse doesn't say you have to find your purpose. It says you already have one: to declare the praises of the one who called you. That's the job. That's the whole job. Not to be successful or impressive or to have answers for everyone. Just to speak about what you've seen. To tell what happened when the darkness lifted.

The related passages about guidance are not about finding some hidden master plan. They're about the next step. Trust with your whole heart, not your own understanding. Listen for the voice behind you saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.' The instruction comes as you move, not before. You don't need to see the entire path lit up at once. You need to see enough to take the next step, and to know that the one who called you out of darkness is still there, still speaking, still guiding. Your purpose isn't something you have to unlock. It's something you live into, one step at a time, by simply saying what you've seen and letting that light spill into the next person's darkness.

Purpose isn't about figuring out the grand design of your life. It's about noticing that you were called, and then living like someone who was called. The rest unfolds from there.

Heart Takeaway

Today, notice one place where light has broken into your own darkness. Then tell someone about it. Not as a performance, just as a fact. That's the whole calling.
